BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA, 8 March 2021 – Cloudscene, the world’s leading connectivity marketplace and market intelligence platform for buyers and sellers of network services, can reveal that female representation at the CEO level across the most influential service providers in the network industry, has risen just 2% since 2017.
According to Cloudscene data, 7% of the top 100 service providers*, as ranked based on market intelligence sourced by the industry, have a female in the CEO position in 2021, compared to 5% as reported by Cloudscene in 2017.
Focusing on a broader global business perspective, just 8.2% (41) of women will lead Fortune 500 companies throughout the first quarter of 2021, an increase of 0.8% from 2020’s list whereby 37 females held this title, according to Fortune’s reports. This number is expected to rise to 15% by 2025, with 10% of CEO roles across Fortune 500 and S&P organizations being held by women of color.
“This year's International Women's Day theme of #choosetochallenge really resonates with me. We have known for some time that continuing with the status quo is something that is no longer good enough in 2021. Our industry prides itself on tracking how we step up for customers, but we should be doing more to step up for those in our organizations so that everyone feels as though they can bring their authentic selves to work,” said Keri Gilder, CEO, Colt Technology Services.
“At Colt, we have launched several initiatives such as a returners program, looking at how we use language in our hiring process, as well as establishing an internal I&D committee that brings together all of our employee groups with the sole focus of trying to make our company a more inclusive one.
“However, we know there is more to be done both within Colt and within our sector – as out of the top 100 service providers on Cloudscene, only seven of those businesses are led by women. I hope that, much like we were all able to come together as a sector as the world changed dramatically last year, that this year we can once again join forces to transform how we all approach and value I&D,” said Gilder.
“This is representative of a wider conversation on diversity and inclusivity across our industry. We’re making valuable progress but we’re not quite there yet,” said Belle Lajoie, CEO, Cloudscene.
“It’s important that we, as leaders, understand that giving individuals from underrepresented groups a seat at the table means we can truly begin to shape our businesses based on informed and balanced perspectives. I believe diversity creates the opportunity for innovation and ingenuity, and works to remove bias and improve balance across global organizations in our sector,” said Lajoie.
“We should all be not only striving to achieve diversity requirements but also be fundamentally improving our approach and attitude to inclusivity in our workplaces and taking tangible action to make a difference. It can be said that progress is being made as globally-influential organizations continue to put in place regulations and structures to improve diversity representation and empower minority groups to advance. For example, NASDAQ proposed diversity requirements for all companies listed on its exchange, in 2020.
