Movers and Shakers: The Latest in Executive Team Appointments and Data Center Industry Reshuffles

We’re just four months into the year and there has already been significant movement among industry leaders and their executive teams. We’ve put together a summary of all the recently-announced executive additions and developments so you’re in-the-know. Equinix creates new leadership roles for three company veteransEquinix announced changes to its organizational structure in Q2, with the transition of three of its executives to new roles to address increasing customer demands.Karl Strohmeyer, who joined Equinix in 2013, has served as President of Americas (US, Brazil, Canada, and Colombia), and was the region’s head of management, strategy, sales, and operations. He was instrumental in Equinix’s largest acquisition to date—the US $3.6B acquisition of 29 data centers from Verizon in 2017. He will now be responsible for the company’s overall go-to-market strategy as Chief Customer and Revenue Officer. Entrusted with a new leadership role as Chief Product Officer, Sara Baack will now oversee Product Marketing, Management, Development and Engineering across core colocation and interconnection offerings. Baack joined Equinix in 2012 as Chief Marketing Officer, and has provided stewardship for business ideation and product development relevant to next-generation enterprise IT architecture and hybrid cloud adoption.Eric Schwartz will transition to his new position as Chief Strategy and Development Officer, and oversee Corporate Strategy, Corporate Development, Business Development, Real Estate, Capital Planning, and Hyperscale initiatives. Schwartz has served as the President of the EMEA region since 2008. He was the driving force behind Equinix’s European expansion, with two significant acquisitions (IXEUROPE in 2007 and Telecity in 2016), 73 data centers in 15 countries, and regional revenue growth from US $178M to $1.6B.Megaport welcomes industry veteran Jay Adelson as a Board MemberNetwork-as-a-Service provider, Megaport, announced the appointment of Jay Adelson as one of its board members and Chair of its newly-formed Innovation Committee. Members of this steering committee for Megaport’s product and technology roadmap will include other Megaport executives, external advisors, and Chairman Bevan Slattery, Australian tech entrepreneur and founder of Cloudscene. Adelson, a well-respected industry expert with over 25 years of experience, built and co-founded many internet businesses such as Digg, Revision3, Center Electric, and Equinix, the world’s leading data center and colocation provider.CyrusOne makes room in its Hyperscale and Cloud Sales division for former Microsoft ExecutiveJohn McCloskey, who spent a year in Akamai Technologies and six years at Microsoft, was recently offered the VP of Hyperscale and Cloud Sales role by CyrusOne. He will perform this leadership role from Seattle and oversee the development of CyrusOne’s Hyperscale accounts. Before joining CyrusOne, McCloskey was Akamai’s Senior VP of Global Sales in charge of the go-to-market within the US $1.5B web performance and security division. At Microsoft, he fulfilled a variety of leadership roles, including Global Head of Cloud and Enterprise Sales.Former Megaport exec and founding member appointed inaugural Chief Executive Officer of CloudsceneTelecommunications industry marketplace and cloud directory, Cloudscene, has appointed Belle Lajoie to Chief Executive Officer. Most recently the Global Chief Commercial Officer for Megaport, Lajoie is tasked with the expansion of the product suite and accelerating user growth and engagement. In April, Data Economy Magazine also recognized Lajoie in their Power Women 50. Keppel DC REIT appoints two independent non-executive directors to its BoardKeppel DC REIT, the first data center real estate investment trust (DC REIT) listed in Asia, has reshuffled its Board of Directors. Low Huan Ping, former Executive VP of Technology of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), joined Keppel DC REIT as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee. Kenny Kwan, a partner of a Singapore law firm and a Capital Markets lawyer with over two decades of experience, joined Keppel DC REIT’s Nominating and Remuneration Committee. Leong Weng Chee, Chief Executive Officer of Real Estate OUE, Ltd, stepped down in April, and will not make himself available for re-election to the Board. New CEO at Mesosphere takes the leadSan Francisco-based startup, Mesosphere, which develops and sells software for data centers, recently appointed former Symantec President and COO, Mike Fey, as its CEO. Fey replaced previous CEO, Florian Leibert, also co-founder of Mesosphere. Leibert explained that the transition was a strategic move, and that Fey would be able to use his technical knowledge, operations, and go-to-market expertise to help Mesosphere pursue its next phase of growth into broader markets. - - - Like to know more?
